I soak mine in water in the husks, then toss it on the grill or into a 400 degree oven for about 30 minutes, until the husks are brown and peeling apart. The water slows the corn sugars turning starchy, and the grill gives it a really good flavor--sweet and smoky. (The oven--well, that's the backup plan for rain. No smoky flavor, but still darn good.)

It sounded to me like the market committee knew who this vendor was, and so would the Council. Only the CDT would know why he wasn't named in the article.

I wonder if the unnamed vendor sent an anonymous letter to borough council or if borough council doesn't feel like it needs to say who complained. After all, if there's no person who will stand up and admit to it, then maybe it's just a power grab by borough council having 2nd thoughts about letting something slip out of their control. After all, this is Bellefonte where the taste polezei keep everything neat and tidy.

I like this non-diet. I try to do similar. I just need to add more veggies. I feel like most produce in NY is on the really horrible end of the scale.

I didn't quite manage the "no meat before evening" thing, but I did keep my lunch small by having a small bowl of fish soup. It was better than it sounds. One of my new coworkers cooks quite often. He used bits of whitefish with carrots, celery, fennel seeds, and saffron. Delicious!

Attentive server and good food, but the noise in the back room from 3 tables ruined my dinner. I'll not sit back there again. Next time I'll sit out front.

I went there for dinner tonight and also had the same sandwich. Very tasty, but boy do I feel the cholesterol spike! Neat place, glad it's opened up again.

The Governors' Pub officially opened for business last Saturday, Nov. 21st. I haven't eaten there yet, but I'm optimistic that it won't be too far from where the High Street pub folks left off. Cheers.

Do you know off-hand if anyone has approached the Borough Council about giving up their role in the market and allowing a private group to take over? If operating it is such an onerous task, it might be something they'd consider. Unless, of course, they collect a fee from vendors. (I try not to get between politicians and money.)

Perhaps if a group of concerned vendors formed their own group and approached the council with an offer to take the market off of their hands, it could be returned to being producer-only and self-regulated to keep out the "Wal-Mart Shoppers." Since this change doesn't take effect until next year, there might be enough time to get something like this done. And if you need another borough resident to back the plan, count me in.

As for the sarcasm relative to Wal-Mart, you did indeed detect a little of it, but it was meant in jest rather than derision. I was using Wal-Mart as shorthand for any out-of-area produce. Now that you have me thinking about it, I'm far more worried about out-of-area produce coming to market with similar quality, driving down the prices of locally grown produce. (Yes, I know, how anti-free market of me, but if we're going to subsidize anyone in the agriculture business, shouldn't it be local producers? I know I prefer to eat locally grown, and I'm happy to pay a little more to keep those farmers who grow it in business.)
